Our Mission & Vision
Our vision and mission is to be God’s kingdom community
Our mission is to be Worshipping God. Community Focused. Sharing God’s Love. Transforming Lives.
Us
We are a multi-generational church who seek to live out the fullness of the life of the kingdom of Jesus with each other and those around us. As a community we care for our members and others. We take seriously God’s call to join with him in his mission in the world, and are easy going, informal, and down to earth.
You
Everyone is welcome at Gawler Baptist. We hope you’ll feel welcome and at home.
If you’d like any further information or would like to speak with the pastor, please feel free to make contact via the contact details on this website.
Child Safe
Gawler Baptist takes very seriously our responsibility in caring for our children. We adhere to the Child Protection and Professional Standards policies as required by Baptist Churches SA, and all our children’s workers are trained in child protection.
Our Beliefs
God
We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and we confess our faith in him as our Lord. We affirm the need for personal, experiential faith in Jesus Christ and formative discipleship into his likeness.
We believe that Jesus of Nazareth reveals God to us through his birth, life, ministry, death, bodily resurrection, ascension and the promise of his return. Because of this revelation we confess faith in one God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In affirming this we acknowledge ourselves to be a part of the world-wide Christian Church.
Our final authority in faith and practice is Jesus Christ, as revealed in Scripture and present among his people through the Holy Spirit. We recognise the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, interpreted under the leadership of the Holy Spirit and in the community of God’s people, as the primary authority for knowing God’s revelation in Christ.
The Bible
The Church
We understand the church to be the People of God, the Body of Christ, and the Temple of the Holy Spirit. We believe that God calls a local fellowship of believers into a shared life as a means of grounding his presence among his people within particular communities in the service of his mission to the world. These called, local communities of faith nourish themselves by worshipping, meeting around God’s Word and sharing together in the Lord’s Supper.
We practise baptism for believers only, in the Triune name of God, into the Body of Christ. Where possible this is by immersion in water as a symbol of identifying in the death and resurrection of Jesus.
We share in the meal of the Lord’s Supper, signs to us of Jesus’ broken body and spilled blood on our behalf.
The Sacraments
Mission
We believe that every believer in Jesus Christ is called to witness, with love and compassion, to the Lordship of Jesus. We believe that the church is to join with God in his mission in the world.
We affirm the ‘priesthood of all believers’ in which the only mediator between God and humanity is Jesus Christ. We affirm the gift of the Holy Spirit to all God’s people, male and female, young and old. We therefore recognise that all members of the church have a role to play using their God-given gifts, skills and talents for the good of the church and the community in the service of God’s mission.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the demographic of your church?
The congregation of Gawler Baptist has all generations, with the larger proportion of the people being in the middle age to older range. We have a number of younger couples.
Why are you meeting in rented accommodation?
Gawler Baptist sold its 1870 Murray Street property in 2015 (now a Dan Murphy’s outlet). As an 1870s building the cost of maintenance was no longer economically viable with our limited financial resources. We’ve been in rental accommodation since then.
Do you have links with any other churches?
Gawler Baptist is a member church of the Baptist Churches of South Australia (formerly the South Australian Baptist Union). We make use of their resources and regularly participate in their gatherings and teaching events. We are bound by their Child Protection and Professional Standards policies.
Do you have women as part of your leadership?
Gawler Baptist makes no distinction in ministry roles in the church between males and females. Women regularly participate in leading communion, preaching, worship leading and are also part of the church Council. Our main criteria is gifting for ministry, regardless of gender.
